  • bob-o · 10 months ago
very mild hallucinogen. very very mild, but if u eat enough thc u can see stuff.
  • Sean · 10 months ago
    It is a hallucinogen
  • Pedro · 10 months ago
Mj is not a hallucinogen drug it´s more a psychotropic drug. But if you smoke three 20% thc skank joints in a row, you might start seing stuff before you faint
  • AuntieHosebag · 10 months ago
    No, it isn't.
  • Kevin · 10 months ago
It's not classified as a hallucinogen, but it you ingest enough, you'll start to see some closed-eye visuals. It takes a lot to get there, though, and I usually stop before that point. It seems to happen more with eaten or vaporized weed (not smoked).

Well, that explains how why Lincoln ended the Civil War.

He loved peace. And hemp is a barbiturate, that changes a person's thinking process like that.

"Recreational users report that a barbiturate high gives them feelings of relaxed contentment and euphoria." -Wiki

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbiturate
  • AuntieHosebag · 10 months ago
No, hemp is NOT a barbiturate. It is an herb, a plant, NOT the product of organic chemistry. Where do people get these ideas?
  • george · 6 months ago
The active organic chemical in hemp is not a result of organic chemistry?

  • Doc Xian · 10 months ago
He was president from March 4, 1861 – April 15, 1865, so aside from being busy what would preclude him from doing so?
  • moe29 · 10 months ago
Lincoln was president from March of 1861 to April of 1865.

So why wouldn't he have been able to send that letter?
  • esoomllub · 10 months ago
Lincoln was president starting in 1861... so, why exactly can't he have said that, especially given it was attributed to him while he was President. I'm not doubting you so much as wanting to know your logic?
  • Joe Schmoe · 10 months ago
Abe Lincoln Born February 12, 1809 – Died April 15, 1865... So how is it not possible again?
  • Treva Nadreau · 10 months ago
Ah, fact checking done so poorly...

Abraham Lincoln was born February 12, 1809 and pronounced dead April 15, 1865... if Matthias Hohner founded Hohner in 1857, Lincoln had 8 years to play one.
  • Jon Smitley · 10 months ago
OK...Why Not? Not that it mattes to me, but it says the company was founded in 1857 and Lincoln was President in 1861 to 1865 and he sent the early models to North America for the less discerning Harpists. Could then he not have had one and have written this? The 1871 date is about better manufacturing methods, not when he started making them.
  • RIck · 10 months ago
This guy uses the same fact checking that all the other people who oppose marijuana use. Bias for a cause fact checking.

Now, does he mean he smoked out of a pipe made of Hemp? Or that he smoked Hemp in a Pipe?
He smoked Hemp. CBD, which is an antipsychoactive ingredient and low in THC.
Not MJ variant which is loaded with THC and low in CBD.

So he was only kinda stoned and less of a psycho? while doing it.

Dock Hoilman -- Help me understand. Lincoln was elected President in 1860 and you say Hohner founded his harmonica company 3 years earlier in 1857. How do you conclude that the letter is bogus?
  • Marggie Amatista · 10 months ago
    O.o
  • imjustjanie · 10 months ago
" And in the world of harmonicas, the name that has reigned supreme for more than a century is Hohner. Founded in 1857"

Lincoln didn't die until April of 1865 - so
Dock ~ why don't you think he couldn't have gotten one in those 8 years?
  • Bea · 10 months ago
    Hell yeah!
  • Emily · 10 months ago
we tend to forget where our roots are lots of times in this country, no matter how hard we try we can never hide them, if nobody ever realizes. marijuana wasn't illegal and tobacco was our 'cash crop.' now the tables have turned and marijuana in the media is linked to insanity and crime, and tobacco consumers and sellers are frowned upon.

even george washington ordered for hemp to be grown on his plantation.
  • OldeSkoolJ · 10 months ago
I bet every single President has smoked. If they hadn't, they would've resigned halfway through from stress.
  • Tim Pre · 10 months ago
Do you really believe that Abraham Lincoln wrote that?

I think he was too busy with other things.

    C'mon.!
  • Dock Hoilman · 10 months ago
Ahhh . . . Sorry, I wasn't clear . . . The original quote is reported to be from a letter to Hohner in 1855. The letter has never been seen and the fact that the company was founded in 1857 makes it pretty unlikely that Abe was playing one of their harmonicas and smoking hemp two years before.

    Another de-bunk site supports this as a hoax . . . http://is.gd/jlac

  • Cokely Siwash · 10 months ago
What letter? Was it carried to Germany on a flying saucer, by any chance? As Hohner didn't sell harmonicas in the US until after 1868, it must have been Lincoln's ghost. Or maybe he faked his assassination and is partying with Elvis.
  • RIck · 10 months ago
? Dude I'm pretty sure just because he wasn't selling them in the US doesn't mean the president couldn't have obtained one. In fact it would make sense for Hohner to send him one personally if Lincoln would have been sending a letter like that.

Even though I don't necessarily believe this because it is far to easy to fabricate, yours isn't much of a valid dissuasion because since when did something not being specifically sold in the US keep a president from getting it if he really wanted to?
  • NeoX · 10 months ago
Well, if he didn't play Hohner harmonica it does not mean he didn't smoke pot. :)

with its insane war on drugs. Hells bells when are they going to outlaw liquor again.
  • AuntieHosebag · 10 months ago

I was under the impression that hemp (the female version of the plant) as little to no THC.
  • james · 10 months ago
you got it backwards. hemp (or what we know as hemp today) is the male plant. and "sweet hemp" is probably the term they used for what we call marijuana or cannabis today
  • Phil E. Drifter · 10 months ago
Kevitivity, "I was under the impression that hemp (the female version of the plant) as little to no THC." No you have it backwards. It is the thc-laden flowers of the female plants that produce the high when smoked. Male cannabis plants are routinely uprooted and thrown away before they can produce pollen, which would 'ruin' the female crop, because once females are pollinated (impregnated) they stop producing thc-laden flowers and put their energy into producing seeds instead. It's the males that are used for industrial hemp; just as there are strains with high thc-content, there are also strains of incredibly low thc content, but regardless of that, it is the females that produce the flowers that produces the vast bulk of thc.

  • john5 · 10 months ago
the term marajuana wasn't created until after this quote. by "sweet hemp" maybe he meant kind, or dank, or good weed, or maybe he liked smoking rope.
  • AuntieHosebag · 10 months ago
The term "marijuana" was invented during the "reefer madness" ramp-up to prohibition in the late 1920s. It sounded exotic and vaguely dangerous, a great piece of propaganda with which to confuse the electorate.

I can never remember the exact connection, but I'm supposed to be related to Lincoln. He's my great great great great grandfathers second cousin, if I'm not mistaken.

Whether or not that's true, I still hold a lot of respect for Lincoln, and now that I've read this quote from him, that respect has greatly increased.

Gotta love a man who loves his hemp.

I find it sad that we have all come to the point where our life's little pleasures are regulated by the government. When did we start letting the elite meddle in matters of each of our personal lives?
When did laws start telling us what we can or can't do, regardless of our activity's effect on others?
Laws are made to keep the peace. My friend Mary Jane brings peace, too. So where's the problem?
Americans don't like a couple of lazy Mexicans, suddenly the drug is bad. The drug will make you kill your parents. The drug will fry your brain and turn you into a vegetable.
Make tobacco illegal. Make alcohol illegal. They're both lousy compared to a good bowl.
We need more people to join the fight for legalization.

This sounds disturbingly similar to a quote attributed to Thomas Jefferson. I have heard that the folowing was in his memoirs, however I have not been able to verify this.

"Some of my finest hours have been spent on my back veranda, smoking hemp and observing as far as my eye can see." - Thomas Jefferson

For those of you who are saying hemp can't be smoked or has no effect.

    from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemp

"Hemp (from Old English hænep, see cannabis (etymology)) is the common name for plants of the entire genus Cannabis, although the term is often used to refer only to Cannabis strains cultivated for industrial (non-drug) use."

Check out the "THC in hemp" heading for more details on the different growing methods used in industrial and recreational hemp.

all of are challenged with your petty disagreements over what hemp/marijuana is classified as.. first off according to this quote it is being called "sweet hemp" anyone who has smoked a stem of the plant much less the root know that neither of those parts can be called "sweet" in any way.. moving on, who cares what it is or what it does.. we have all on everyside been misinformed of the true origins of the plant and its social acceptability.. i say trust no source for history completely ever - but then listen to as many sources on the subject as possible.. this way you can come to a much more educated decision being able to filter out all differing angles agendas.. finally so what is some of our most powerful leaders in the past grew or smoked pot? up until not even an entire century ago the plant was legal and the majority did not frown upon its use.. it grew freely as a "weed" throughout this country and others.. so more power to ol abe for smokin if he did especially for the de-criminalization of this quite useful plant (it is a true gift put here for us).. mary jane has never been as dangerous as even alcohol.. give micheal phelps a break people- he retired at the end of the games- remember? i smoked pot everyday and went to highschool nationals competing in swimming for 3 years in a row- it wasn't until i started smoking tobacco (this nations original cash crop) that i began to fail at that.. so dont' smoke cigs and dont drive drunk and you are ok with me :)

George Washington smoked hemp and was also an atheist. Albert Einstein also was an atheist. From 1631 till the early 1800s you were able to pay your taxes with hemp. Refusing to grow hemp in America during the 17th and 18th Centuries was against the law. Read a book people.
